Prince Edward Island National Park, Cavendish Beach

Green Gables Shore Cavendish Parks & Beaches

A destination sought out by beach lovers for more than a century, Cavendish Beach is definitely one of Prince Edward Island’s best-known beaches. Known for its beautiful coastal dunes and seaside vistas, Cavendish Beach is very popular with visitors, especially families, on hot summer days. In the evening, however, it is transformed by the soothing and breathtaking colours of the setting sun into a relaxing oasis for beachwalks and mindful reflection.

Equipped with accessibility features like ramps, mobility mats, and reservable beach and buoyant beach wheelchairs (contact Parks Canada to reserve in advance), Cavendish Beach has surfguard service in summer (check website for dates). It is also home to an impressive boardwalk dune crossing that allows safe passage for beachgoers over the dunes to the beach beyond. Take note: this is also the perfect vantage point to catch the stunning sunsets with your camera or simply to take them in – memories always make the best souvenirs!

Those seeking to take in a shorter hike can take advantage of the trailhead for the Cavendish Dunelands Trail which offers a scenic one-way route to Oceanview over a floating boardwalk. You can also access the Cavendish Grove trail network from the parking area, as well, making a day spent here full of options ripe for exploration.  For more info about the trails, visit parks.canada.ca/pei-hiking.
