The performing arts scene in PEI is rich and diverse, with a strong emphasis on celebrating and showcasing the island’s unique culture and heritage. Here are some of the best performances that will be happening in Central PEI in 2023:
Watermark Theatre is celebrating its 15th year of production in 2023. The Watermark Theatre will be playing the comedic drama Steel Magnolias and the thriller Gaslight throughout the Summer. The theatre will also continue to present The Watermark Music Series on Sundays in July and August 2023.
Victoria Playhouse has its 2023 festival ready with a focus on “collaborations, community, and showcasing the surprising and delightful artists from right on our doorstep to the other side of the continent” (Artistic Director Johanna Nutter). Some of the shows playing this year include Shirley Valentine, The Good Time Radio Variety Show, and Empire of the Sun.
Under the Spire Music Festival is the perfect summer long festival to visit every week. Featuring some of Canada’s most inspiring classical performers and local regional artists, their shows in Historic St. Mary’s Theatre’s are a must see while visiting PEI
The College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts Centre will perform Highland Storm in 2023, a story of the Scots arriving on PEI performed with step-dancers, traditional songs, and drums and pipe music. Check out their website for more events this season!
For all the Anne lovers, the Canadian theatre sensation Anne and Gilbert, The Musical is playing at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall again in 2023!
- The River Clyde Pageant is running on July 28-30th, 2023, and August 3-6, 2023 in New Glasgow, Prince Edward Island. This outdoor performance celebrates the Island community and features giant puppets, stilt walkers, musicians, and performers of all ages.
