A1 Tips for planning your PEI Wedding
Explore everything to love about...Your Island Wedding!
Prince Edward Island offers a wide variety of wedding options – from religious ceremonies in historic churches to up-market weddings at a lovely full-service venue to more casual ceremonies held in home gardens or summer cottages (even while just visiting!). A favourite among many couples is a barefoot wedding on one of our Island’s many beautiful beaches.
PEI is an absolutely perfect wedding destination, with every wedding-related service imaginable available. The friendly, client-service oriented attitude of Island vendors ensures that all of the planning is made as easy as possible. Stress is not allowed on our Island!
Off-Island couples frequently hire a full-service wedding planner to assist with the wedding details – including selecting venues, photographers, DJ’s, catering, florists, transport, make-up / hair and other services. Other couples prefer to hire a “day” planner to coordinate activities only on the day of the wedding. Although there is currently no central registry of wedding / day planners, a quick on-line search using “wedding planner” or “event planner” will render a number of skilled planners.
For the couple who prefer to undertake all of their own planning, contact with any one venue or service will normally result in a connection to a second desired service, with recommendations of additional service providers moving forward from that point onward.

In order to marry on the Island, couples must first obtain a marriage license from PEI Vital Statistics. So long as the couple has all of the documents required, the marriage license is issued “while-you-wait”.
All of the information concerning how to obtain a marriage license is available from this PEI government site … www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/information/justice-and-public-safety/getting-marriage-licence-pei
For couples travelling from off-Island, making an appointment at a license-issuing office prior to arriving on the Island is highly recommended –- especially during peak wedding season of July through September.
Prior to applying for that marriage license, the couple must have the name of the accredited marriage officiant they intend to use. A current list of all the registered civil Marriage Commissioners is available at this PEI government site … www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/information/justice-and-public-safety/marriage-commissioners-pei Although this list is organized by county, a registered civil Marriage Commissioner may perform a ceremony anywhere on the Island. Prices, types of ceremonies and additional services vary according to individual Marriage Commissioners.
