Farmers Bank of Rustico (The)
The Farmers' Bank of Rustico, a National Historic Site, has a long history of being a center of activity in the community of Rustico. This history dates back to the time of Fr. Georges Belcourt, parish priest and mentor to the farmer and fisherman of the period. One of his greatest achievements was the founding of what is now known as "the peoples bank", today the newly renovated building is a monument in itself to the work of Fr. Belcourt and the farmers and fishermen of then and now. It is a museum to be visited on Prince Edward Island. The museum provides visitors with a better understanding of the struggles of past and what can be achieved through cooperative efforts. The "Bank" is considered "the precursor of the Credit Union Movement in North America".
