Things Are Buzzing on Prince Edward Island

If everything is honey, and I am what I eat -- I must be made of honey and life is very sweet!

-- Winnie the Pooh

Honey is one of Prince Edward Island’s sweetest treasures. Perfectly paired with tea, toast, and lots of other meals, you can find tons of honey and bee related products on PEI. Here are a few places that are buzzing with honey bee experiences:

You have to taste it to bee-lieve it! The Table Culinary Studio in New London features a class called Hive to Table. This class will inform you on the vital role bees play in Island agriculture. Beekeeper and environmentalist, Sharon Labchuk, provides a tour of her beehives in Stanley Bridge. After harvesting some fresh honey, you’ll head back to The Table where you’ll work closely with the chefs to create unique dishes laced with delicious Island honey.

The Birds and the Bees by Mark Crawford at the Victoria Playhouse. This comedy is all the buzz in Victoria! Visit the historic playhouse for an evening of laughter and fun with this charming play, which tackles themes of family and love. This play is only on until July 30th -- you don’t want to miss it!Update: This show is now over for the summer, but Victoria Playhouse offers a variety of amazing shows throughout the entire summer. Make sure you check them out!

If you’re looking for some sweet accommodations, The Bumblebee House at The Gables of PEI is for you. This beautiful two-storey vacation home features one King bedroom, two Queen bedrooms, and a bunk room, as well as three bathrooms, a wrap-around deck, loft den with an ocean view, and a private yard with a fire pit. This home is perfect for families and is located in the buzzing Stanley Bridge/Cavendish Beach Resort area.

Bees are sure to be buzzing around the Gardens of Hope at Island Preserve Company. This gorgeous garden is worthy of a visit. While you’re there, pop into Island Preserve Company to browse through their selection of Island honey products. They also feature Honibe products. Honibe is an Island company which creates honey based health products, such as lozenges, multi-vitamins, and drops. These products are sure to fly off the shelves, so make sure you get your hands on some!

Finally, you’ve got to check out Island Honey Wine Company. Here they have certified organic fruit orchards, a lavender field, and a honeybee sanctuary. Upon your visit, you’ll take a tour and learn how mead -- honey wine -- is made. You’ll also be able to sample a variety of fruit meads and browse through their craft shop which features pottery, honey, wool products, lavender products, and much more.

Whether it’s seeing or sampling, there are lots of honey-related experiences on Prince Edward Island. One out of every three bites of food we eat is thanks to pollinators like honey bees. These little guys are responsible for some of the most delicious products the Island has to offer. You’ve got to visit Prince Edward Island to see what’s all the buzz!
